Of May Day, Corporate Aggression and Selling Out
What is it about the fact that crucifixion was a Roman form of execution that the Christians don't understand? I'm not naming names here. What is it about pure hallucinatory madness that drives people to see ephemeral beings in mundane things like cloth, walls, water, and chocolate ice cream that I don't get? Why do children believe in Santa Claus and mermaids, and dragons, and angels, and fairies? Because we tell them so. And so it is written in The Book. Or, should I suggest, re-written in The Book.
You can say that I'm a man of little faith, or no faith, and even though I love dragons, elves, fairies, dwarves, gnomes, and other fantasy things, I do believe, staunchly, that these things are not real. Once some fabulist scholar remarked that all things imaginary are a juxtaposition of existing things. Or was it a psychologist? My mind is dulled by misuse and indecision so you'll have to bear with my uncertainties and doubts. For example, a mermaid is a cross between a human and some marine animal that has fins. A dragon is a lizard with wings, though you can say that a bat can come close to being a dragon although bats are not in the same categories as lizards. And Rush Limbaugh is a conglomeration of a bag, wind, and utter nonsense.
So, what does all this have to do with May Day, corporate aggression, and selling out? Nothing. Well, not all nothing, but some nothing. If this doesn't make sense to you, please stop reading as it will get worse.
It seems that some movie that came out in 2004, which I didn't see because I refuse to see history being twisted like that, almost like watching “Kingdom of Heaven” and crying out: “The Leper King wasn't really a nice guy!!!” So, I'll have to just take it from other people, websites and reviews about this God-awful movie. This is one “thing” that embodies the opposite of the emblem of May Day, is corporate aggression against a group of people, and it is a sell out in that sense that it catered to the lowest common racist, hateful, intolerant people out there. How can you watch this movie and not think of Triumph of the Will (that is, I haven't seen that either, but I take it on faith that it is as bad as they say).
There is one thing about wanting to kill demons, the Devil, and evil aliens who are highly allergic to water, but invade the Earth anyway. But, it is another to invent a fantasy in order to justify hatred for an entire group of people that really exist. Nevertheless, it seems people are content to live with lies and justifiable hatred. If you want to hate someone, hate the shareholders who steal from honest taxpayers every single day of the year. Please leave the innocent people alone. Anyway, Yeshua Ha-Notsri was a Jew. Yes, he was a JEW! Why? Because he was born in Bethlehem, in Judah, and what person who was born at the time, in that area, had blond hair, blue eyes, and spoke English??? OK, I guess I watch way too many Hollywood movies.
Enough about that little issue in my closet. On to better things.
Solidarity, society, and humanly love is something that we all want, yet no one really strives for it, except for misguided hippies who thing that sharing means sharing other people's stuff and not theirs. Which is something I've experience that led me to think that most hippies don't know the foundation for hippyism that began in the mid to late sixties. I think that one of them was “social consciousness” and “social conscience”, not “drugs, sex and rock & roll!” Though not a bad thing, those three last things I mentioned, usurping an intellectual and socially viable philosophy for those three things is counter productive. And leads to egotism, addiction, venereal diseases, and hearing loss. Or can, I should say.
Anyway, another May Day has gone and still corporations rule the world with their G1000 summits, the World Bank which doesn't really help the world because the greedy people won't let it, just sits and works for the greedy people who won't let it. Corporations are still stealing money from taxpayers, governments hold their constituents in slavery by this thing called “minimum wage”, which isn't enough to help anyone live a comfortable life, and no one is allowed to pursue their happiness because our economy is run by a bunch of brutes who think that watching people suffering is fun.
Oh, and did I mention people who wage wars so they can send in their corporations to “fix” things by charging the war torn countries an arm and a leg to “reconstruct” their damaged country? Yes, I forgot, but now I rectified that omission.
We are a brutal race no matter what the hippies say. Yes, we can always dream of a better place, better times, and better world, but as long as jerks hold 99% of the world's wealth but only make up only 1% of our population, there will always be May Days, Corporate Aggression, and Sell Outs. After all, isn't War the Mother of All Inventions? And don't we want inventions? Well, I guess I'll just have to go back to my fantasies for another year. And, for those that think that May Day is a God-awful thing, and that “those” people should just be happy, why not try sharing some of that wealth with the rest of the world. Maybe, if enough people are truly happy, and feel that the world is an honest and just place, those May Day rallies will disappear. On second thought, greedy people aren't that smart.
